Issue: STATE OPIOID RESPONSE GRANT BUDGET AUTHORITY REQUEST |
Justification
Governor's Recommendations 2023-24
The Governor's Budget Recommendation for Fiscal Year 2023-2024 includes $110,636,880 department-wide to carry out the
existing State Opioid Response federal grant activities to address the opioid crisis. The Department of Children and
Families receives State Opioid Response (SOR) federal grant funding through the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health
Services Administration. The SOR funded service array for opioid and stimulant misuse and disorders is comprehensive and
covers the entire spectrum of care across prevention, treatment, and recovery support domains.
This additional authority allows Florida to use federal funds to combat the opioid crisis. This grant focuses on
reducing opioid related deaths, preventing prescription opioid misuse among young people, increasing access to
medication-assisted treatment, and increasing the number of individuals and organizations that are trained to provide
medication-assisted treatment and recovery support services.
