Policy Area: ASSISTANT SECRETARY FOR ADMINISTRATION |
Issue: REIMAGINING EDUCATION AND CAREER HELP ACT (REACH) |
Justification
Governor's Recommendations 2023-24
The Governor's Budget Recommendation for Fiscal Year 2023-2024 includes $366,255 department-wide for three positions and
225,000 in salary rate in the Department of Children and Families to support implementation of the Reimagining Education
and Career Help (REACH) Act. This issue allows the Department of Children and Families to collaborate with stakeholders,
create economies of scale by using shared data, and improve processes and interfaces, giving citizens the chance to fully
utilize benefits created by the REACH Act.
The REACH Act was passed by the Florida Legislature and signed by the Governor in 2021. The REACH Office within the
Governor's Office facilitates coordination with the Department of Economic Opportunity, the Department of Children and
Families, and Department of Education to streamline processes and minimize duplicative data entry from individuals and
workforce-related programs by creating and establishing a common intake form, public facing portal, and a data hub
connecting the existing workforce related programs. These positions will work with the other workforce partners to
ensure seamless implementation.
